April 2024 Hello fellow Rainwater harvesters! January has been a great month for our aquifers and for our community. With record setting rainfall for the month, the Austin area has recorded a total of 6in of rain across the district. This makes January 2024 the fifth wettest January on record. That’s a whole lot of rainwater to collect! Although, because of our severe droughts the past few years, directors are still questioning whether or not to update drought statuses. The effect of this most recent rainfall does take a few weeks to show an impact on the environmental conditions. Fortunately, Barton springs, Lovelady well, and the upper and middle trinity river have seen significant rises in water levels. Jacobs Wells has also returned while the Blanco River in Wimberly is experiencing increased water flow as well. Drought is no stranger to our community, and we want to do everything we can to protect our natural water sources. Collecting rainwater is a great step toward helping our aquifers regain their levels. With more rain to come, we are looking forward to seeing our new and previous installations collect and use mother nature’s most precious resource, rainwater. Till next time, Dripping Rainwater |
